  • Day 1: Arrival and Northern Lights Husky Safari

Your adventurous holiday begins at Kiruna Airport where your local guide awaits to greet you and drive you to your cosy hotel in Kiruna, Sweden’s northernmost city located 145 km north of the Arctic Circle. As dusk settles, bundle up for a thrilling guided dog sled tour into the wild to experience the magical of the northern lights*. The guide will mush a team of 10-12 dogs and you sit 4-5 people on one big sled.

Later, enjoy a hot coffee and snack around the fire before returning to your hotel for your first evening in Lapland!

    * Please note that the northern lights (aurora borealis) are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

  • Day 2: The ICEHOTEL and Snowmobile Adventure

After breakfast at your hotel, it’s time to head to the world-famous ICEHOTEL in nearby Jukkasjärvi for a guided tour. Upon arrival to the ICEHOTEL, enjoy a guided tour of the fascinating ICEHOTEL complex, including the original snow-and-ice structure that is rebuilt each winter and a new permanent structure, the ICEHOTEL 365, which offers a year-round winter experience inside thanks to solar energy. You’ll be able to see an assortment of ice rooms and ice suites as well as the chic ICEBAR, ice church and other creative works of ice and snow.

After the tour, you are transferred back to Kiruna where you can enjoy a nice lunch at one of the local restaurants before your next adventure begins.

Around 15:00, you are picked up by your guide for your overnight snowmobile adventure. As you glide through the snow towards your rustic accommodation for the night, you are surrounded by stunning Arctic scenery with the possibility of spotting wildlife such as moose, reindeer, lynx, wolverines, and eagles. Two people share one snowmobile and take turns in driving. Just in time for dinner, arrive to the cosy cabins where your guide will prepare a traditional Lappish feast for the hungry group. Although the cabins are without modern features like running water, the soothing Swedish sauna will make you forget all about the modern world.

Please note that the Icehotel is under construction and opens up on December 15th. Until then, the guided tour and accommodation will be at the Icehotel 365, which is also used throughout the season.

Adventure Packages
All of Nordic Visitor’s Lapland travel packages should be considered adventure travel on account of being operated in the Arctic during sometimes extreme weather conditions and with the use of live animals for many excursions. For this reason, those booking a travel package in Lapland (except for those considered family travel packages) should consider themselves at least moderately physically fit and comfortable engaging in activities that are considered adventurous or strenuous.

Some things to keep in mind:
  • There will be snow and ice on the ground, sometimes making it difficult to walk.
  • No luggage handling services will be available. You must be prepared and able to carry your own luggage in snowy conditions.
  • Accommodations will be simple in comparison to what you’d find in major urban centres.
  • WC facilities encountered during excursions may be unheated outhouses without running water.
  • During husky safaris where you share one team of huskies with another person, the person standing to drive the sled will need to kick to assist the dogs and may be required to run when sledding uphill.
  • Reindeer and huskies run very fast. Those interested in participating in either a reindeer or husky safari should keep this in mind.
  • Some snowmobile safaris may require you to drive in the dark. Those interested in participating in snowmobile safaris should keep this in mind.
  • By law, those interested in driving a snowmobile must be able to present a valid driver’s license.
The safety of our travellers is our top priority at Nordic Visitor. We reserve the right to change or cancel departures if we feel the conditions will jeopardize the safety of our customers.

Snowmobile tours
  • The driver of a snowmobile must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
  • Drinking alcohol is not allowed before driving a snowmobile.
  • Children are seated in a sled pulled by the guides snowmobile during snowmobile safaris
Northern Lights
The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed. Evening excursions will operate according to the tour schedule, even in unfavourable viewing conditions, and our guides will do their utmost to determine the best possible location for sightings.

Activities & Guides
This is a self-guided tour with scheduled guided excursions and activities. All accommodations and included activities and services (as specified in the itinerary) will be pre-booked by Nordic Visitor in close co-operation with trusted local suppliers. You will not have a dedicated guide for the duration of your time in Lapland, but can expect a different qualified guide for each planned excursion. You are responsible for making your way to the specified meeting point for the start of each excursion. The time between scheduled excursions and activities will be free-time.

Cabins
The accommodation during the husky tour is in simple cabins without running water or electricity. Water is collected from a river or a lake. There is a sauna in the camp. It may be necessary to share cabin with other tour participants but you will have your own room. These cabins can also be upgraded to a cabin with private toilet, shower and sauna against an additional cost. Please ask our travel consultants for more details.

After booking with Nordic Visitor
After booking your package with Nordic Visitor, you will be contacted within two working days by one of our travel consultants, who will serve as your dedicated contact person for all of your travel needs before, during and even after your holiday. You will also be provided with Nordic Visitor’s 24/7 emergency helpline phone number where you can always reach a Nordic Visitor representative during your time in Lapland.

Please note: It takes time to make all the arrangements for a complete travel package. The travel consultant must book or reserve each included service individually with each supplier and personalize each itinerary accordingly. For this reason, we encourage our clients to book as far in advance as possible to ensure that your preferred travel dates, accommodation class and additional activities are available.
