  • Day 1: Into the Wild!

Your adventurous holiday begins at Kiruna Airport at 13:00, where your guide awaits to greet you and drive you to the husky kennel in Ojnakka. After a basic lesson at the kennel, you have full control of the reins and the journey begins! Each participant will drive his or her own sled with a team of four dogs, following the guide who will lead the way. The time on sled depends on weather, track condition, and the skills of the guests but we drive a minimum of 25km or more. After “mushing” your way to the campsite later in the afternoon, your hungry canine companions are rewarded for a hard day’s work with a hearty meal while equally hungry sled drivers gather in the cozy cabin for a traditional Lappish dinner together.

Accommodation is in simple cabins without running water and sometimes without electricity. Please note that everyone needs to help out collecting water, chop fire wood and feed the dogs.

  • Day 2: More "Mushing" and the ICEHOTEL

In the morning, both you and your husky companions are served a hearty breakfast in preparation for the 30 minutes journey over the plains and through the woods back to the husky kennel. After saying goodbye to your four-legged friends and your trusty tour guide, transportation is provided to your accommodation for the night in central Kiruna.

From Kiruna, your next stop is to the ICEHOTEL. Today, you will enjoy a guided tour of the fascinating ICEHOTEL complex, including the original snow-and-ice structure that is rebuilt each winter and a new permanent structure, the ICEHOTEL 365, which offers a year-round winter experience inside thanks to solar energy. You’ll be able to see an assortment of ice rooms and ice suites as well as the chic ICEBAR, ice church and other creative works of ice and snow.

    Optional activities:

Option 1: Overnight at the ICEHOTEL
An overnight at the ICEHOTEL is like living in a fairytale! Snuggle up with your sweetheart on top of soft reindeer skins on a bed made of snow and ice. Regardless of whether you spend the night in the new or original structure, the temperature inside is kept at around - 5°C (21°F) at all times. But no worries! You will receive a thermal sleeping bag to keep you warm and handy tips from ICEHOTEL staff on how to sleep comfortably in your own ice room or suite, on soft reindeer skins atop a bed made of ice. In the morning, wake up to a cup of hot lingonberry juice at your bedside and enjoy a hearty breakfast in the restaurant followed by a refreshing trip to the sauna.

Please note that the Icehotel is under construction and opens up on December 15th. Until then, the guided tour and accommodation will be at the Icehotel 365, which is also used throughout the season.

Option 2: Northern Lights Snowmobile Safari
Take a journey into the wilderness to search for the dazzling northern lights with a guided snowmobile trip! Two people share one snowmobile and take turns in driving. After a delicious dinner in a wilderness hut, return to the trail for the journey back to your warm hotel in Kiruna.

    * Please note that the northern lights (aurora borealis) are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

  • Day 3: Departure

Today it’s time to say goodbye to Lapland and return home with wonderful memories of your adventures! Transportation is provided to Kiruna Airport in time for your departure flight.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

We all had a fantastic time

We arrived home from Lapland last night and I just wanted to let you know that we all had a fantastic time. Lapland Safaris, who took us on the night-time snowmobile safari, dog-sledding adventure and reindeer farm, were excellent, very well organised and friendly. The hotel, Clarion Santa Claus, was very comfortable, terrific breakfast each morning and check-out wasn't until 12 noon on the day we left which was great. All your arrangements and bookings worked very smoothly. Thank you.

Adventure Packages
All of Nordic Visitor’s Lapland travel packages should be considered adventure travel on account of being operated in the Arctic during sometimes extreme weather conditions and with the use of live animals for many excursions. For this reason, those booking a travel package in Lapland (except for those considered family travel packages) should consider themselves at least moderately physically fit and comfortable engaging in activities that are considered adventurous or strenuous.

Some things to keep in mind:
  • There will be snow and ice on the ground, sometimes making it difficult to walk.
  • No luggage handling services will be available. You must be prepared and able to carry your own luggage in snowy conditions.
  • Accommodations will be simple in comparison to what you’d find in major urban centres.
  • WC facilities encountered during excursions may be unheated outhouses without running water.
  • During husky safaris where you share one team of huskies with another person, the person standing to drive the sled will need to kick to assist the dogs and may be required to run when sledding uphill.
  • Reindeer and huskies run very fast. Those interested in participating in either a reindeer or husky safari should keep this in mind.
  • Some snowmobile safaris may require you to drive in the dark. Those interested in participating in snowmobile safaris should keep this in mind.
  • By law, those interested in driving a snowmobile must be able to present a valid driver’s license.
The safety of our travellers is our top priority at Nordic Visitor. We reserve the right to change or cancel departures if we feel the conditions will jeopardize the safety of our customers.

  • Drinking alcohol is not allowed before driving a snowmobile.
  • Children are seated in a sled pulled by the guides snowmobile during snowmobile safaris

This is a self-guided tour with scheduled guided excursions and activities. All accommodations and included activities and services (as specified in the itinerary) will be pre-booked by Nordic Visitor in close co-operation with trusted local suppliers. The accommodation during the husky tour is in simple cabins without running water or electricity. Water is collected from a river or a lake. There is a sauna in the camp. It may be necessary to share a room with other tour participants. These cabins can also be upgraded to a cabin with private toilet, shower and sauna against an additional cost. Please ask our travel consultants for more details.
