  • Day 1: Arrival and Moonlight Snowshoe Trek

This action-packed holiday begins at Kiruna Airport where your local guide awaits to greet you and drive you to your cosy hotel in Kiruna, Sweden’s northernmost city located 145 km north of the Arctic Circle. As dusk settles, head out into the wild with your guide to try out the most basic mode of winter transportation—snowshoeing! Enjoy the serenity away the city lights and keep your eyes to the sky to catch a glimpse of the magical northern lights. Before returning to the hotel, enjoy a hot coffee and snack around a campfire in the woods.

    * Please note that the northern lights (aurora borealis) are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

  • Day 2: The ICEHOTEL and Snowmobile Adventure

After breakfast at your hotel, it’s time to head to the world-famous ICEHOTEL in nearby Jukkasjärvi for a guided tour. Upon arrival to the ICEHOTEL, enjoy a guided tour of the fascinating ICEHOTEL complex, including the original snow-and-ice structure that is rebuilt each winter and a new permanent structure, the ICEHOTEL 365, which offers a year-round winter experience inside thanks to solar energy. You’ll be able to see an assortment of ice rooms and ice suites as well as the chic ICEBAR, ice church and other creative works of ice and snow. After the tour, you are transferred back to Kiruna where you can enjoy a nice lunch at one of the local restaurants and relax for a while.

Around 15:00, you are picked up by your guide for your next encounter with Arctic transportation—snowmobiling! This exciting overnight snowmobile journey takes us through some of the most beautiful winter scenery as you glide through the snow towards your rustic accommodation for the night. Two people share one snowmobile and take turns in driving. Just in time for dinner, arrive to the cosy cabins where your guide will prepare a traditional Lappish meal for the hungry group. Although the cabins are without modern features like running water, the soothing Swedish sauna will make you forget all about the modern world!

Please note that the Icehotel is under construction and opens up on December 15th. Until then, the guided tour and accommodation will be at the Icehotel 365, which is also used throughout the season.

  • Day 3: The Beauty of Nature

After a hearty wilderness breakfast together at the cabins, it’s time to hit the trail again for more adventure in the snow! Today’s route takes us near the frozen Torne River with possible sightings of local wildlife along the way including moose, reindeer, lynx, wolverines, and eagles. Far from human interference, this is an ideal opportunity to enjoy Lapland’s pristine nature and unspoilt landscapes. Later, return to the cabins for another tasty dinner together.

  • Day 4:  Back to Civilization

Enjoy an energizing breakfast before you are being picked up and transferred to your next stop, a husky kennel, where you get to try yet another time-honoured mode of winter transportation—dog-sledding! Under the guidance of a skilled musher, you will learn to drive your own team of huskies through the breathtaking Lapland landscape. Two people share one sled and take turns in driving. The hard-working sled dogs howl and pull at their harnesses to get moving, showing you just how eager they are to start pulling the sled over the plains and through the woods. During the break, enjoy a hot coffee and a light lunch around a campfire. Back at the kennel, say goodbye to your trusty canine companions and then return to the hotel in Kiruna in time for a nice dinner at one of the local restaurants.

  • Day 5: Departure

After a breakfast at the hotel, transportation is provided to Kiruna Airport in time for your departure flight.

Here’s a map of Lapland, to help put things in perspective.

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

We all had a fantastic time

We arrived home from Lapland last night and I just wanted to let you know that we all had a fantastic time. Lapland Safaris, who took us on the night-time snowmobile safari, dog-sledding adventure and reindeer farm, were excellent, very well organised and friendly. The hotel, Clarion Santa Claus, was very comfortable, terrific breakfast each morning and check-out wasn't until 12 noon on the day we left which was great. All your arrangements and bookings worked very smoothly. Thank you.

Sleep soundly, in the accommodation type of your choice, and wake up ready to enjoy another day of exploration.

Adventure Packages
All of Nordic Visitor’s Lapland travel packages should be considered adventure travel on account of being operated in the Arctic during sometimes extreme weather conditions and with the use of live animals for many excursions. For this reason, those booking a travel package in Lapland (except for those considered family travel packages) should consider themselves at least moderately physically fit and comfortable engaging in activities that are considered adventurous or strenuous.
Some things to keep in mind:
  • There will be snow and ice on the ground, sometimes making it difficult to walk.
