This morning, a local Sámi guide will pick you up at Camp Ripan to take you to the ICEHOTEL. It is the largest hotel built of snow and ice in the world and was the first of its kind ever made! On arrival, you’ll take a self-guided tour of the spectacular structure. View spellbinding ice rooms and ice suites as well as a chic ice bar, an ice church, and other unique creations.
Then you’ll visit a few historic buildings in Jukkasjärvi. This is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in Lapland’s culture and learn how the Sámi people and settlers lived here centuries ago. You’ll see a Sámi church from 1607, which is completely built in wood and the “Old Homestay” with old timber houses dating back as far as 1768.
The tour ends with a visit at Nutti Sámi Siida where you could pop into the Café Sápmi to have a hot drink and pastry by the open fire. You could also book a reindeer encounter to end your day on a unique experience (limited availability so advance booking is recommended). Then head back to Camp Ripan where you’ll enjoy dinner.
Spend the night at Camp Ripan.
*The ICEHOTEL opens in mid-December. Until then, tours will be at the ICEHOTEL 365, open all year.
