How to dress warmly and be ready for adventure
Preparing for a visit to Lapland and not sure what to bring with you? Follow the Nordic saying “There’s no such thing as bad weather. There’s only bad clothing.” to get ready. Or read our Lapland experts advice below.
What to bring to Lapland
Weather conditions in Lapland can change quickly and often. For this reason, all travellers should bring many layers of warm, comfortable inner wear such as long johns, long sleeved shirts, jumpers and trousers.
Although you’ll be provided with warm outerwear for guided winter day tours in Lapland, it’s wise to bring a warm winter jacket and accessories for when you have free time.
For smart clothing that can handle all kinds of weather conditions, we recommend checking out 66°North, an Icelandic brand inspired by Arctic life.
Here is our suggested packing list for your winter holiday:
- Insulated boots with good grip
- Insulated jacket (preferably waterproof too)
- Waterproof or snowproof trousers
- Thermal underwear and base layers
- Warm woollen or fleece jumper
- Warm gloves, scarf and hat
- Thin thermal gloves (ideal as a base layer under snowmobile gloves)
- Warm woollen socks
- Small backpack or rucksack
- Sunglasses
- Camera with extra battery pack
- Heat pads for hands and feet
- Flashlight if you are staying in a wilderness cabin
- Travellers 4 years old and older will be provided with warm garments for outdoor activities in winter. Please note that most Lapland tour operators are not able to provide warm clothes for children under 4, so come prepared.
